BETTOR JOY 2ND TO SHARTIN N IN MATCHMAKER FINAL
Bettor Joy closed well but was unable to halt the reign of fellow NZ-bred stablemate Shartin N in the $402,600 Blue Chip Matchmaker Final at Yonkers, New York, on Sunday (NZ time).
Shartin N (Tintin in America-Bagdarin) became the first consecutive winner of the Matchmaker after surging to the front from the six gate at the half-mile for driver Tim Tetrick.
She held by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:52.2 to notch her 30th win in 42 career starts, taking her earnings to $1.3 million for the Jim King jun stable.
Bettor Joy, and driver Dexter Dunn, eased to sixth early from the five gate, improved to fourth at the three-quarters, and finished well for second.
The former Cran Dalgety-trained Bettor Joy pocketed $100,000 for second, taking her USA earnings for the year to $185,680 fromi four wins and two seconds in seven appearances.
