BETTOR JOY WINS $US40,000 MATCHMAKER HEAT
Former Kentuckiana Lodge filly/mare Bettor Joy won a $US40,000 Blue Chip Matchmaker Series Free-For-All Mares Pace at Yonkers, New York, last Saturday (NZ time).
The Bettor’s Delight-Joyfulbelle mare settled fifth from the five gate for top driver Tim Tetrick but unwound stronlgy to win by a length over pacemaking Ideal Lifestyle A in 1:53.8 for the mile.
Another former NZ mare, Gold Orchid, finished a sound third.
Bettor Joy, now a stablemate of top NZ-bred mare Shartin, in the Jim King jun stable, was recording her second USA win in four starts for the year for owner, Richard Pollucci, who co-races the mare with Tetrick and Jo Ann Looney King.
Shartin, the millionaire daughter of Tintin in America, was beaten into fourth in her Matchmaker heat after having a tough trip in the open.
Victory went to Feelin Red Hot, who held in 1:53.2 from outsider Obvious Blue Chip and former Canterbury mare Seaswift Joy.
Shineonucrazydiamond continued his good Yonkers form for the Ross Croghan stable with a neck second in a $US35,000 conditioned pace on Sunday (NZ time).
The Somebeachsomewhere gelding trailed and fought well to push front-running winner Caviart Luca in a 1:53.2 mile.
Shineonucrazydiamond has won $US64,290 from three wins and two seconds in seven 2019 appearances.
Meanwhile, former Levy Memorial winner Bit Of A Legend continued his run of outs in this years series, finishing sixth of seventh in the heat won by Rodeo Rock in 1:52.2.
Bit Of A Legend trailed from the ace barrier but wilted in the run home to finish fifth lengths from the inner.
Former ex-stablemates, Christen Me and Bettor’s Fire, were also unable to feature in Sunday’s heats.
Christen Me, settled sixth, and finished fifth in the heat won by NZ-bred American Boy (7g American Ideal-Alesandra Ambro) in 1:53.2.
Bettor’s Fire, from barrier six, settled second and third, but tired to finish sixth in the heat won by The Downtown Bus in 1:53.2.
Over at the Meadowlands, New Jersey, on Sunday (NZ time), former top NZ and Kentuckiana Lodge driver Dexter Dunn, was in superb touch, winning four.
Dexter has already driven the winners of over $US1 million in stakes in 2019, from 78 victories.
