FORMER STABLEMATES BOTH WIN AS 12-YEAR-OLDS TO NORTH HEMISPHERE TIME
Evergreen former Kentuckiana Lodge pacer Bettor’s Fire has opened up with a win third-up in 2020 at Yonkers Raceway, New York, on Tuesday (NZ time).
Now 12 to Northern Hemisphere time, the Bettor’s Delight-Sparks A Flyin gelding marched to his favoured lead role from the three barrier for driver, co-owner, Ron Cushing, and dictated the $20,000 pace, winning by a length and a quarter in 1:54.1 (fifth).
A regular winner last year for the Heidi Gibbs stable, was busy racing 31 times in the USA in 2019 for 12 wins, four seconds and six thirds, earning a healthy $190,380.
Bettor’s Fire, who lowered his liffetime mile best to 1:50.1 (fifth) last year, has combined NZ, Australia, and USA earnings, totalling $1,058,177, with 58 career victories from 145 lifetime starts.
As is so often the case, he earned the least in NZ, winning $79,192 for the Cran Dalgety stable from 11 wins and seven placings in 30 starts, before his initial sale to race in West Australia.
Meanwhile, the stable’s former 2011 Group One NZ Sires’ Stakes 3YO Final winner Texican, was also a winner again, this time at Freehold Raceway, New York, on Sunday (NZ time).
Also now 12 to Northern Hemisphere time, the Bettor’s Delight-Bury My Heart gelding led throughout from the five barrier in a $5000 pace non-winners of $2500 in their last five starts.
The race for $7500 claimers was made to order for the former Levy Memorial placegetter, winning by two lengths in 1:56.1 (fifth).
These days trained by Vincent Fusco jun, and driven by Rick Pantano, Texican has won 34 of 175 lifetime starts, for combined NZ, Australian and USA earnings of $994,722.
He has a lifetime best mile of 1:50.1 (fifth).
