CHRISTEN ME NOTCHES YONKERS WIN
Former Kentuckiana Lodge Grand Circuit star Christen Me notched his first win of 2019 at Yonkers, New York, on Sunday (NZ time).
Christen Me, now 10 to NZ time, but 11 to Northern Hemisphere Time, led from the two gate ina $29,000 pace for driver Matt Kakaley.
The Christian Cullen-Splendid Dreams gelding held former intermedite grade ex-Cantabrian pacer Gunpowder by half a length in 1:54.8 (10ths).
The field also included other ex-Kiwis in Late Mail (fourth) and Texas Terror (fifth).
Christen Me was transferred to the stables of Lance Hudson last July.
He won twice last year, the first at Harrahs Philadelphia in 1:50.8 in May for the Jim King stable, and the second at Yonkers in October for the Hudson stable in 1:54.8.
Christen Me has now won 41 of 108 lifetime starts, for earnings of over $2.5 million.
Meanwhile, fellow ex-Kentuckiana Lodge pacer Shineonucrazydiamond also won again on Sunday’s Yonkers programme, this time in a $US35,000 preferred pace.
The Somebeachsomewhere gelding settled third from the two gate for driver Jim Marohn jun, and finished best to win by a length in 1:54.2.
Shineonucrazydiamond has thrived with the mile racing in North America.
After winning just over $US135,000 last year, he’s now won $US42,340 in 2019 from three wins in four starts.
