JEWEL COLOURS BACK FOR 2011
The first look at the new Ashburton Trust Harness Jewels colours will come on Friday night at both Addington and Alexandra Park.
Leading two-year-old filly Veste will carry them in her Magness Benrow Sires’ Stakes Fillies’ Heat in Auckland, while Peter Ferguson will wear them on Gold Ace in his Derby trial at Addington in an evenly contested race 10.
As usual the colours will be seen on the Jewels Leaders in the weeks approaching ‘championship day’ on Saturday June 4.

Other Jewels leaders include: Carabella, De Lovely, Fly Like An Eagle (in Australia currently), Smiling Shard, All Shook Up, Kylie Ree and Larix.
The strong record of the Jewels colours is hoped to continue this Friday with both Veste and Gold Ace expected to be well backed in their respective races.
Pukekohe trainer Steven Reid is confident he has Gold Ace “back” but will know a lot more after Friday’s resumption.
“We’ve treated all his problems and believe we’ve got to the crux of them. He trialled up well last week and seems back to his old self.”
“Friday will tell if he’s back though. He’s 90% and as such we intend driving him for one run at them.”
Safely through this week’s race Gold Ace is sure to be one of the favourites for the Derby. He will have to better Empyrean to win this week though, a horse
with recent racing under his belt and a score to settle with Gold Ace after a series of defeats earlier in the season.
As has been the case in the previous editions of the Harness Jewels, connections of the money leaders will be presented with commemorative colours to keep the night before the Ashburton Trust Harness Jewels Day on June 4.
