DEXTER A $5 MILLION MAN
Former 10-time champion NZ reinsman Dexter Dunn has crashed through the $5 million mark for the year in North America.
Dexter had driven the winners of $US5,041,475 after another brace of wins, including a six-win haul at Harrahs Philadelphia on Sunday.
From 1600 drives at the end of Monday’s racing, he had racked up 247 wins, 212 seconds and 193 thirds. He is currently the fourth top winning driver in North America in 2019.
Dexter has a chance at another notable payday at the Meadowlands on Hambletonian Oaks day this Sunday (NZ time).
He continues his association with top 3YO trot filly, Millies Possesion from the plum two gate in the $US500,000 Hambletonian Oaks Final.
Millies Possesion is unbeaten in eight starts this year for trainer Jim Campbell, having already earned $195,517 and taken a 1:51.1 mark.
Dexter also again partners the Chris Ryder-trained Bettor’s Wish in the $285,362 Cane Pace for the gun three-year-old pacers.
Bettor’s Wish (1:49.1), a half-million earner, starts from the four gate, with main rival Captain Crunch (1:47.2), also a half-million winner, to start from six.
Dexter also drives Ontopofthehill (two) in the $324,550 Peter Haughton Memorial for the 2YO trot pacers, Panem in the $310,700 James Doherty Memorial Final for the 2YO trot fillies and either Manchego (1:50.1) or Darling Mearas S (1:49.4) in the $186,000 Steele Memorial Mares Trot.
Amongst his other full book on the big 15-race card, he drives Wisdom Tree (up against champion Shartin) in the $183,500 Lady Liberty for the top pacing mares, either Ideal Feeling (barrier one) or Done Well (11) in the $230,200 Sam McKee Memorial for the top aged pacers, and Treacherous Reign (seven) in the $100,362 Shady Daisy for the 3YO filly pacers.
