DEXTER DUNN DRIVES WINNER OF $US300,000 PACE
Former 10-time champion NZ reinsman, Dexter Dunn, has done it again in North America, scoring his second major race win within seven days.
Dexter, the new “go to man” among the leading drivers in North America, reined Bettors Wish for trainer, ex-NZ horseman, Chris Ryder, to a stunning six-lengths win in the $US300,000 Art Rooney 3YO Open Final at Yonkers Raceway, New York.
Bettor’s Wish, a bargain $US20,000 yearling, paced the mile around the half-mile Yonkers circuit in 1:51.8 (10ths) to remain unbeaten in three appearances this year.
He’s a colt by champion sire Bettor’s Delight, from a Western Ideal mare.
The win comes of top of Dexter’s victory in the $C188,500 Confederation Cup in Canada a week earlier.
A former winning of the World Drivers Championship in Australia, Dexter has added another 10 wins for the week, including a five-win haul at Harrah’s Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday.
Dexter, eighth among the leading money-winning drivers in the USA this year, has now reined the winners of just over $US2.5 million in 2019.
He has won 155 races for the year, run 131 seconds, and 125 thirds.
