Former NZ superstar reinsman, Dexter Dunn, has landed another North American feature, winning the $US200,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes 2YO Fillies Trot Final at the Meadowlands on Saturday (NZ time).
Dexter, from the five gate with Fortune Starlet, settled fourth and worked to the front at the half-mile point.
From there, it was plain sailing for the George Ducharme-trained Fortune Starlet, the favourite winning by five lengths in 1:54.3 (fifths).
Fortune Starlet, by Trixton (who sired all starters) finished off the battle of attrition over her last quarter in 29.1s.
It was another good payday for former 10-time NZ champion driver Dexter Dunn, who had advanced to 221 wins for the year, with his drives having won over $US4.26 million, advancing him to third on the top earning USA drivers earning list.
He earlier finished third in the Meadowlands card with the Aaron Lambert-trained Follow Your Heart in the $US 200,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes 2YO colts and geldings Final.
Victory went to top USA driver Tim Tetrick, who scored a nose win with outsider Villam, a gelded son of Rock N Roll Heaven (who sired the complete field), in 1:53.2.
