DEXTER WINS FIRST MEADOWLANDS PREMIERSHIP
Twelve-million dollar man Dexter Dunn has won his first Meadowlands driver premiership in his break-though North American year.
NZ’s greatest harness racing export added four more victories at the final Big M programme of the year on December 21 to finish the year on 47 wins, 10 ahead of nearest challenger, Yannick Gingras.
Dexter, who has concluded racedriviing in 2019 having driven the winners of a massive $US12,077,367, has a week off for festive celebrations in Scotland before resuming at Dover Downs on New Year’ day.
He had 2696 drives for the year, for 461 wins, 347 seconds and 350 thirds.
Champion USA driver Tim Tetrick again led the way statistically in 2019 with 3095 drives, for 758 wins, 534 seconds and 372 thirds, driving the winners of $15,641,730 in stakes.
Yannick Gingras was second on the overall standings, with 2140 drives for 412 wins, 312 seconds an 281 thirds, having driven the winners of $13,429,713.
Dexter was third overall, ahead of Jason Bartlett, the only other driver to top $10 million, with 512 wins for $10,223,727 in stakes.
The next two best money-winning drivers in the USA in 2019 are: David MIller (283 wins for $9,175,364) and George Brennan (459 wins for $8,264,822).
