ANTHONY BUTT TO DRIVE DR SUSAN IN RAITH MEMORIAL
Improving Kentuckiana Lodge filly Dr Susan has made a dash to New South Wales this week to contest the $50,000 J L Raith Memorial at Tabcorp Park, Menangle, on Saturday night.
Cran Dalgety’s Menangle-based brother-in-law Anthony Butt will drive the Bettor’s Delight-Safedra filly.
She is raced by Chrissie Dalgety, Cran’s wife, and Anthony’s sister.
Dr Susan lifted her earnings $43,253 with her game third behind top NZ fillies, Amazing Dream and Stylish Memphis, in the Group One $138,000 Alabar Sires Stakes 3YO Fillies Championship at Auckland on December 31.
She won her previous Auckland start in a career best 1:57.8 rate (2200m).
If she races competitively on Saturday, she could also take in the $150,000 Lazarus Victoria Oaks at Melton on January 25, and the $200,000 NSW Oaks Final back at Menangle on February 29.
Its a case of trying to maximise the opportunity across the Tasman while top NZ filly Amazing Dream remains in NZ to tackle the top filly races here.
Meanwhile, New Year’s Eve Young Guns Heat winner, Krug, has returned to Kentuckiana Lodge to freshen and prepare for the $100,000 Young Guns Final at Auckland on March 6.
