FABRIZIO BACK FOR NEW TERM
Fabrizio, an unraced half-brother to Punter’s Dream (1:57.7), Hundie (1:56.1, US) and Rock On (2:00), continued his progression with a solid trial win at Rangiora on Wednesday.
A gelded son of Sweet Lou, Fabrizio showed promise in January, running second in an Ashburton two-year-old mile trial, with winner Noosa Beach clocking 1:57.
He was back with a workout run at Rangiora on June 19, then stepped up a notch with Wednesday’s mobile 2000m trial.
Fabrizio, headed from the ace draw into the first turn, moved out in the open over the last 1500m in the hands of Nathan Purdon.
He knucked down in the straight to catch front-running Le Tissier, winning by half a neck in 2:30.8, the leaders last 800m in 56.3s and 400m in 27.8s.
“He’s quite a nice maiden,” said trainer, Cran Dalgety.
Fabrizio is the fourth foal from the 1:58.8 race-placed mare Zagami, who placed in three of only eight race starts.
Zagami (Christian Cullen-Unrehearsed), was sold and exported to Australia two years ago.
She is a sister to big-winning filly Lizzie Maguire (p3, 1:55.1, 12 wins & $477,366) and the former Kentuckiana Lodge-trained Victoria Derby third place-getter Matt Maguire (p3, 1:53.9), eight wins & $108,141.
Zagami is also a sister to Tori Maguire (1:57, Aus) and Martine Maguire (1:57.7), and a half-sister to other winners in Charlie Mach (1:58.9) and Thomas Maguire (1:56.2, Aust).
