FIZZING & LIGHTNING RAIDER ADD TO CAREER TOTALS
Fizzing and Lightning Raider were ex-Kentuckiana Lodge pacers to add to their overseas totals last weekend.
The former, sold out of the Cran Dalgety stable last season, won the $A25,000 Garrards Horse & Hound Botra Cup Pace at Gloucester Park, Perth, last Friday.
Fizzing (4h Mach-Three-Frizzante) overcame a 30m handicap in the 3YO and older pace for driver Ryan Warwick.
Despite carting a flat tyre, he finished best from a good trip on the outer, winning by 2.9 metres in 3:11.6 for the stand start 2500m, a mile rate of 2:01.8.
Fizzing, trained in West Australia by Greg and Syke Bond, lifted his career earnings to $134,431 with the win, his 15th from 44 lifetime starts.
A winner of three at Addington in 10 starts for the Kentuckiana Lodge team, he’s been a regular winner in Perth this term, winning 10 of 22 starts for $90,397.
Meanwhile, Lightning Raider continues to defy his age in New York, winning again at Buffalo Raceway on Sunday (NZ time).
Lighting Raider, racing this year as a 14-year-old veteran to Northern Hemisphere time, settled fourth from the two alley in a $6400 pace.
Starting as the second favourite, the Christian Cullen-Talent Hanover gelding led turning for home and cleared out by four and a half lengths over favourite, Bubeleh Stone, in 1:55.2 (fifths) for the mile.
Lightning Raider, a former winner of the 2010 Group Two Pelorus Trust 4YO Classic at Blenheim and nine other NZ races for the Cran Dalgety stable, has won 55 races lifetime for over $600,000 in stakes.
