GOOD AUCKLAND NEW YEA’RS EVE FOR KENTUCKIANA LODGE
The Kentuckiana Lodge team concluded 2019 on a high note at the Auckland premier meeting, advancing to 31 wins with a double to Fabrizio and Krug, and a Group One third for Dr Susan in the $150,000 Alabar Sires Stakes 3YO Fillies Final.
Krug, a high-priced $155,000 yearling buy who delivered second-up in the Young Gun Series Heat at Auckland on New Year’s Eve.
Fabrizio showed his improved maturity during Auckland racing in December, overcoming the outside front row draw to lead over the last lap and prove too strong in a 1:57 rate (2200m), the last 800m in 57s to hold Dina Brown.
Meanwhile, high-priced yearling buy Krug achieved his December mission by leading thoughout from the ace barrier in the $25,000 Young Gun Series Heat,
Also driven by NZ’s champion reinsman Blair Orange, the Bettor’s Delight-Champagne Princess colt was rated to a nicety.
Given a charmed run on the front end, Krug was untroubled to hold in a 2:00.1 rate for the 1700m, quickening over his last 800m in 56.9s and 400m in 27.1s.
Tony Herlihy combined with Dr Susan for her placing behind top filly Amazing Dream, and Stylish Memphis, in the Alabar Sires Stakes Fillies Championship.
She ended up with a good run on the outer from the four barrier, then was able to get on the three wide train down the back the final time, tracking Amazing Dream.
Dr Susan couldn’t match the first two in the run home but fought well as the Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen-trained favourite went on to score in a fast 1:55.7 rate for the mobile 2200m.
There was no respite over the leaders final 800m in 55.8s an 400m in 27.7s.
