DIMINUITIVE DONEGAL RUNDLESCREEK KEEPS GOING
Diminuitive former Kentuckiana Lodge mare Donegal Rundlescreek continues to punch above her weight as an aged mare in North America.
After racing honestly to a tough mark in Canterbury, the Bettor’s Delight-Boyd’s Creek mare also raced gamely in West Australia before being on-sold to the Shaun Vallee stable in New York.
Now eight, Donegal Rundlescreek made a winning debut for the year on the “Big M”‘ at the Meadowlands mile track at New Jersey on January 3 in a $13,500 pace for fillies and mares.
She had no favours from the nine barrier, but was driven positively as the $4.60 favourite by Corey Callahan, rushing out to be parked at the end of the first quarter.
Donegal Rundlescreek led at the half and drew clear to win by 3 and 3/4 lengths in 1:53.3 (fifths), 0.1 of a second inside her previous best.
Through general consistency, she won $105,880 last year in the United States from only two wins, but backed up by eight seconds and six thirds.
Now a winner of over $300,000 lifetime, she has amassed 20 career wins from 95 starts.
A forrmer 3YO filly track record setter at Oamaru in NZ when prepared by Cran Dalgety, Donegal Rundlescreek is a success story for Kaikoura breeder, Murray Boyd.
He bred her from Boyd’s Creek, who won once in five starts.
By former Inter Dominion and A G Hunter Cup winner Elsu, from Why Not Girl, an unraced daughter of Smooth Fella and top producer, Kahu Del, Boyd’s Creeks is a half-sister to Stoney Creek (1:55.2, US, 10 NZ wins) and Mackles Creek (TT, 1:56.6).
Kahu Del, the grand-dam of Donegal Rundlescreek, was a half-sister to Kahlum, the dam of champion square-gaiter Lyell Creek, and from same family as fast trot star Marcoola (T, 1;53.8, 16 wins & $518,696), and former smart Kentuckiana Lodge pacing winner for owner Murray Boyd in Bettors Creek (10 wins, 1:56.1).
Other good pacers in Swan Creek (eight wins & $75,335), Harnetts Creek (1:57.7, 13 wins & 296,103)) and Cullen’s Creek (1:56.9), were also half-sisters to Kahu Del.
