NEW ZEALAND CUP THE TARGET
Star Kentuckiana Lodge pacer Pat’s Delight has been withdrawn from the Harness Jewels 4YO Emerald at Addington in early June, with a bigger target in sight next term.
“He’s too big and fat at the moment and we want to just set him for the New Zealand Cup meeting,” said trainer Cran Dalgety.
“After a long, long, spell, following his Australian campaign, he’s back jogging and swimming.”
Cran says the Bettor’s Delight entire is very advanced physically, and he’s looking forward to him returning even stronger at five.
“We’ll go through the Cup meeting with him, and then take in the Inter Dominions on our back door step, so it warranted him having a good spell and rest before we tackle the big events next season.”
Pat’s Delight banked $110,284 at four, from three wins, three seconds, and a third, in 10 starts.
Last year’s Cambridge Harness Jewels 3YO Emerald winner was a game runner-up to subsequent Miracle Mile and Taylor 4YO Mile winner Spankem in the Kaikoura Cup on October 29, and a fast-finishing fourth in Cruz Bromac’s NZ Free-For-All in November..
He numbered wins in the Tuapeka Cup in October, a Ballarat Inter Dominon Heat in a 1:52.2 mile rate over 1710m in December, and the Group Two Shepparton Gold Cup in January, this term.
Pat’s Delight also ran fifth behind Tiger Tara, Our Uncle Sam, Cruz Bromac and Spankem, in the $500,00 Inter Dominion Pacing Grand Final at Melton on December 15.
He wound up his Aussie campaign after running fourth behind Poster Boy, Spankem and Duke Of Wellington, in the Group One 4YO Bonanza at Melton on January 26.
