SEZANA WINS SECOND OF FOUR YONKERS STARTS
Former Kentuckiana Lodge filly Sezana notched her second Yonkers win with a victory in a $US19,000 fillies and mares pace on Tuesday (NZ time).
The daughter of Shadow Play and Regal Banner sped out from the six gate to lead over the opening quarter, then trailed and finished best.
She won by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.4 (fifths) in the hands of Jordan Stratton, for New York owner-trainer, Ricky Bucci.
Former Kentuckiana Lodge driver Dexter Dunn had a drive in the same race, settling back from the five gate and finishing well for third with Coral Bella.
Dexter earlier brought up his 208th win of the year by winning the second race on the Yonkers programme with White Pants Fever.
He has advanced to become the fourth leading USA driver on earnings for the year in North America, with his drives having won just over $3.75 million.
Sezana has yet to finish out of a dividend-bearing place in four Yonkers starts for the Bucci stable, having won an earlier start in 1:54.2 (fifths) on the half-mile track there.
Previously in New Zealand, the chestnut coloured Sezana won twice, was four times second and once third in 16 starts for the Cran Dalgety stable, earning $41,468.
Her last New Zealand win came in a 1609m pace at Auckland on December 21, in the hands of Zachary Butcher, in 1:57.9.
Former Northern Derby winner Raukapuka Ruler (Menangle) and Recipe For Dreaming (Albion Park) were ex-Kentuckiana Lodge pacers to score in Australia last week.
Raukapuka Ruler, now racing for the Tim Butt stable, led from the six gate in the hands of Jack Trainor in a $12,000 pace at Menangle last Sunday, holding as a $1.80 favourite in 1:51.7 (1609m).
This was his third win in 10 New South Wales starts.
The gelded son of Bettor’s Delight and Miss Elsie produced a 1:50.2 mile, first-up at Menangle, last December, after being sold out of the Cran Dalgety stable in November as a winner of six from 20 starts for $200,603.
Recipe For Dreaming (Bettor’s Delight-Secret Potion) lwoered his best winning mile rate in Australia to 1:55.1 over 1660m at Albion Park on June 25.
He then finished third to fellow ex-Kiwi Star Of Montana (Art Major-Cyathea), and Aphorism, in the TAB Rising Stars Championship Final at Albion Park on Saturday night, the winner rating 1:54 for the 1660m.
Recipe For Dreaming, who won two and was six times placed in 21 NZ start for $13,560, has taken his career record to 10 wins and 39 placings in 95 starts for $84,973 across the Tasman.
